Custom Made Bed Heads and Head Boards

We are seeing a lot of interest in custom made upholstered bed heads and head boards. Many of our clients have requested we make them one to finish off their bedroom.

Upholstered “bed head walls”

We are also doing a lot of upholstered “bed head walls” – when the whole wall behind the bed is upholstered in fabric. This can be one big panel, often with fabric covered buttons, or several panels individually upholstered and then assembled on site to create the “wall”.

Sometimes the bed head is upholstered in matching fabric; or co-ordinated to fabrics used in soft furnishings such as curtains, Roman blinds, and scatter cushions. Some clients prefer the bed head to stand out in its own right as the hero of the room – we often use faux leathers and suedes in this case.

There are some stunning patterned faux leathers available – even snake skin patterns in every colour! Metallic faux leather looks stunning as a bed head too.

Bed Head Size

There is no such thing as a standard bed head size. We often suggest that the bed head is made wide enough to include the width of bedside tables too. We then make the bed head with discrete cut outs to accommodate power points. Some clients prefer their bed head to be mounted to the wall rather than full length so that it appears to be floating. This type of bed heads is easy to remove and reupholster in different fabric for a quick seasonal makeover.

Bed Heads Suit Every Type of Décor

Bed heads suit every type of décor. A very simple minimalist look is achieved by using a natural linen weave fabric. The addition of buttoning can elevate a simple fabric to look extremely elegant. A big current trend is to have a statement fabric for the bed head. Large scale floral and tropical prints can make the bed head look like a beautiful garden! If the bedroom window opens on to a garden view the effect is mesmerising. Geometric and Moroccan inspired patterns are very popular too. Bold black and white stripes always look classical and timeless.

The Monochromatic Look

The monochromatic look in neutrals looks particularly handsome when the bed head is upholstered in a rich chocolate fabric. Banding is big news for soft furnishings – including bed heads. Banding is a band of contrasting colour that is used along edges of Roman blinds and curtains. In a small room a banded window covering together with a bed head in co-ordinated striped fabric makes the room appear larger. It is a very popular look for boys bedrooms.

Another trending look is when the Bedhead fabric is teamed with a matching (fitted) valance to cover the mattress sides. We make those too.
