                                        Swags and Tails

If you want to make a statement of grandeur and design then swags and tails are a great way to do this. Swags and tails, like pelmets are an effective way to finish your window treatment and make them look complete.  Swags and tails are a more traditional window overtreatment that rely on symmetry and neat pleating to give a look of opulence. Whilst not for all tastes swags and tails suit more traditional architecture, but can be effectively woven into a contemporary  look in today’s homes with the correct choice of fabric and colour.

We have used plain fabric swags very effectively in contemporary homes to provide a “softness” in an otherwise minimalist décor -  by using the swags in conjunction with blinds rather than curtains. The fabric swags also helped reduce echo and noise from the tiled flooring and looked fabulous framing the all glass wall facing stunning water views.

The choice of fabric is very important in the use of swags and tails in order to get them to drape correctly. We can advise you which fabrics are more suitable for this type of over treatment.

We can help you solve all sorts of window décor dilemmas by mixing and matching different decorating elements that you may not have thought of….

Swags and Tails consist of the following to provide a look.

The Swag or Swags fabric that hangs in a beautiful and soft arch below the headboard that it is mounted to.  Swags can be done in different ways, overlapped, point to point, staggered and more.
The tails are the decorative pleats at either end of the headboard that complete the look by framing the side of the windows. Tails also provide a return back the wall to dress the window and discreetly cover the sides of the curtains.
Jabots are a smaller tail that can be used on a larger window where you have a higher quantity of swags. Jabots are used to break the pattern between swags and also provide added symmetry to the look. Jabots are either lined in the same fabric or more often in a contrasting fabric as this is very effective to the overall look.
Rosettes can also be used as a finish touch on a swag. These are typically placed where the swag meets the tail on the headboard.

The width of the window will determine the number of swags to be used and multiple numbers of swags are usually overlapped. Swags and tails can also be embellished with fringing and braiding to further add that classical touch.
