Here are some of the most frequently asked questions....

                                        Do you charge for consultations?
We understand that purchasing new curtains, blinds and soft furnishings is an important long term decision. So we don’t just measure your windows and give you a quote, we will spend the time to ensure that you make the right choices that will add value to your property, and give you many years of pleasure.

Our complimentary consultation typically lasts about an hour. In that time we can usually get an accurate feel for what you are trying to acheive. Depending on the size and complexity of the job this may take longer. We are fairly flexible with this and are happy to work with you to get the best result.

Our initial consultations are complimentary for clients in the Gold Coast area. For locations further afield, there may be a small travelling fee depending on the scope of work required. Many of our clients live in Brisbane, the Tweed and Byron Bay areas. We are more than happy to discuss your requirements to see if we are able to assist you.
How do I clean my curtains?
This is the most frequently asked question we get. To the surprise of many we have never advocated the dry cleaning of curtains for several reasons. Your curtains are manufactured to a very precise set of measurements. Curtain fabric unlike clothing fabric is not pre shrunk. Therefore when immersed in either water or dry cleaning fluid the fabric can shrink. Heat and drying also play a part in this process. Many people who have had their curtains dry cleaned  find that the curtains have shrunk when they re hang them. We have often had calls asking us to let down the curtain hems to solve this problem. This has its own issues. Our recommended method of curtain care is to vacuum them regularly with the upholstery attachment of your vacum cleaner. If you look after curtains in this way and keep your curtains from getting sucked out doors in windy conditions, then you should get years of service from them.
We do recommend that washing of sheers is acceptable (provided the fabric is a polyester). These can simply be gently washed in a bath with a soft detergent, then rinsed and re hung to dry on their tracks. it is advisable to place towels under the sheers whilst they are drying. We also suggest  the removal of any metal hooks before washing.
Why is there extra fabric when I close my curtains?
This is known as "creepage". We need to allow extra fabric in your curtains because fabric by nature can and does shrink with changes in the weather (humidity).  By allowing extra fabric we can be sure that the curtains will still close properly should they shrink in variable weather conditions.
What is the difference between uncoated and coated fabrics?
All fabrics begin as uncoated as they come out of the mill. Traditionally all fabrics were uncoated and a lining of some type was used behind the fabric either as a blockout or a semi blockout.
With the progression of textyle technology fabrics became available with a blockout or One pass coating on them. This negated the need to put a separate lining on them for thermal and light protection. This also enables the cost to be reduced, however the results of a curtain made from coated fabric is very different to that of an uncoated fabric.
Are coated fabrics better than uncoated?
Whilst there is nothing wrong with using a coated fabric, a curtain made with an uncoated fabric  and  separate sewn in lining makes a far superior curtain than a coated fabric. This is the type of curtain we would normally recommend.
Do you sell ready made curtains?
No - all the curtains from Spring Crest are manufactured to the highest possible standard and are custom made. Ready made curtains are mass produced by machines and as such the quality of these fits the price paid.
I am not sure if I need cord drawn tracks or not?
Cord drawn tracks have been popular for years as many people were concerned about hands touching their curtains and soiling them. Cords however do pose a safety consideration and new regulations have been introduced covering their usage. We find today that most clients are happy with hand drawn curtains - we provide the option of a "flick stick" as a method of opening/closing the curtain without the need to actually touch the fabric. Hand drawn curtains provide ease of use and less to go wrong. (Tangled cords etc) There are some instances however where cord drawn tracks are better and we can advise you our opinion of this when you call into the showroom.
Of course there is always the motorised option too!
Will Spring Crest make curtains if I supply the fabric?
No. At Spring Crest we are a retail manufacturer of window furnishing solutions and not just a workroom. It is not possible for us to guarantee the quality control of our products when clients supply their own fabric.
I want to know about those blinds that I can see through?
These are roller blinds known as "Screen Blinds". They are manufactured from a Poly and Acrylic Yarn and are woven in such a way that leaves a fine gap between the weave. This enables you to see the view outside the window by day. Screen blinds are a transparent type of blind that filter light and glare. Most basic screen blinds have a 5%  to 10% openess factor. The blind provides privacy during the day as well as thermal protection. Many clients believe that this is maintained at night, but due to the properties of the blind, they do not provide privacy at night where the higher level of ambient light is on the inside of the blind. It is therefore not recommended these blinds be used in areas such as bedrooms and bathrooms without the use of an additional covering such as a day-night blind or curtain.
                                        Are motorised window coverings expensive?
This is possibly one of the more difficult questions to which to give a definitive answer! There are many different solutions to motorising window coverings. Like anything you buy there are solutions that come with a brand name and those that do not. The more expensive solutions are provided by manufacturers that provide a total integration package and have very sophisticated options that will handle just about any internal and external coverings.
For the more budget conscious client there are some excellent solutions that are robust, reliable, and more affordable. At Spring Crest we have a solution for every client. The more objects you wish to motorise and have individual control over, the more the cost of the project increases. There are many ways to control the budget of a project to be motorsied and we are able to accurately guide you through this process to help you get the best result for your needs.
